Reconciliation in Action:
The DRCSS hosted a Powwow Drum waking ceremony on Monday, December 8. Elders John Houle and Coco Ray Stevenson shared their knowledge regarding Drum Teachings to the entire student body.
The ceremony was guided and welcomed by the Mackenzie Middle School Powwow Drum group - Mamaawii Abing-We all sit together - as they shared their drum teachings with the high school. The Drum’s heartbeat filled the whole school; this was a powerful moment of cultural continuity.
Elder John Houle honoured the spirit of MVSD’s newest Powwow Drum with the name:
Asamaa Ojing Ongamook – Mountain Side Singers.
